I probably don't need to tell you just how soon Thanksgiving is, right?
Every time this year I see people coming to this site through urgent questions. "how do I make gluten-free stuffing? Is there such a thing as gluten-free pumpkin pie. gluten-free thanksgiving. help!"
Well of course, we're here to help.
Over the past few years, Danny and I have developed recipes for the foods we eat at our Thanksgiving table. In fact, my entire family (and Danny's family one year) eats an entire Thanksgiving dinner without a stitch of gluten. No one misses it. (At least that I know about.) In this house, a gluten-free Thanksgiving is no big deal.
So we'd like to share some of the recipes that will be on our table.
Brussels Sprouts Salad
Cranberry Cocktail
Dinner Rolls
How to Make Gluten-Free Gravy
Our Best Gluten-Free Pie Crust
Pumpkin Mash
Roast Turkey for Everyone
Thanksgiving Stuffing
Wild Rice Salad with Chanterelles and Cashew Sour Cream
As well, we'd like to share a few posts with you that we developed to help you flourish through this holiday:
How to have a gluten-free Thanksgiving
How to cook for someone gluten-free
That last one is for those of you who can eat gluten but are feeding people who cannot.
And on that note, we want to share something spectacular with you....
We're not the only ones who have developed gluten-free recipes for you this year.
A few weeks ago, I asked some of our favorite bloggers and bakers if they would make something gluten-free this year.
As we wrote to these good folks:
"As you know, Thanksgiving (in the US) is quickly approaching. As you might guess, this is a particularly anxious time for gluten-free folks, since the traditional meal is SO starchy and glutenous. Imagine what it might be like to show up at Thanksgiving and not feel welcomed at the table. You watch everyone else eat stuffing and pie and nibble on mashed potatoes and salad, hoping there wasn't any cross-contamination in the cooking.
Everyone here? We cook. We bake. We do this to share the warmth of the kitchen and the table with the people we love. Even the gluten-free folks.
So here's what we're proposing.
Cook or bake something wonderful — mincemeat pie, crusty stuffing, dinner rolls — and make it gluten-free."
Danny and I both have been amazed at the enthusiasm and final dishes that these fine people have made for you. Keep in mind that most of these people can eat gluten.
No one gluten-free needs to go hungry at the Thanksgiving table this year.

You'd think that would be enough, right?
Not for us.
Danny and I have been so moved by everyone's generosity here, as well as all the generous questions and insights on Twitter and Facebook, that we want to give you more.
So, we are giving away:
3 copies of our cookbook.
a collection of gluten-free flours, including all the flours needed to bake from our cookbook
a care package of spices and ingredients you might need to make some of the recipes in our cookbook.
a collection of useful baking tools, such as a Silpat, jelly roll pans, a peltex spatula, and a tart pan to make the tarts from our cookbook.
and... wait for it:
a Kitchen Aid stand mixer.
There are seven prizes here, in total. And to be honest, Danny and I are paying for these ourselves. We want you to start baking, gluten-free.
Could you spread the word for us? Tell people about this post and our cookbook?
Now, all you have to do to be eligible for the giveaway is this:

GF since August 15th, 2010, life changing experience. It hasn't been easy, but I'm loving cooking. I got Glutened (ate out,and they said it was GF) last Friday, and now so worried about Thanksgiving. Going to my B/F's relatives 6hour flight from home. My B/F is very supportive and plans to take me to the grocery store when we get there, the night before Thanksgiving. I plan to make myself (and others if they want) something I loved and made at home before. I hope the link works. - Sweet and red potatoes, raisins - cranberries, red onions , sea salt, ground pepper, dill

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 410 Newer› Newest»So wonderful! We always have a so many over for Thanksgiving that we do a 'dessert bar'. Two gluten free things we'll definitely be having on the menu:
François Payard’s Flourless Chocolate-Walnut Cookies
http://hiddensisters.blogspot.com/2010/11/chocolatecookielove.html
and we use Trader Joe's Gluten free Ginger Snaps to make sandwich cookies with Creamy Apple Dip (this is my favorite Thanksgiving treat before dinner even starts!)

Oh thank you so much for all your effort to share your knowledge of GF cooking. Your book is on my wish list for right now ;P
I'm new to GF.
My grandmother was GF many years ago. I'm trying to get some of this figured out. Thanks so much for the recipes and guidance in this new territory. As soon as I can start baking, I will share on my blog. Thanks again, Oh can I post a link to your blog on my blog?
I make cornbread dressing using cornbread made with rice flour instead of wheat. No one noticed a difference in taste and the dressing was great!
Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous!! No longer do I have to suffer with odd-tasting, store bought, premade mixes. This year, I am thankful for your wonderful recipes. This will be my 1st gluten free Thanksgiving and I am looking forward to an exciting new GF adventure! Thank you!!
Shauna,
I was diagnosed in May 2000 with celiac disease, and the adjustment was very difficult for me. My baking efforts flopped the first few times, and I just gave up, really. I ran across your blog only 4 months after your diagnosis, and you reignited the hope that one day, I would be able to eat like a normal person again. For that, I thank you. I still cannot cook and bake like I want to, but I am much better and more open-minded now. You have been a true blessing to me. Thank you for inviting me into your kitchen and into your life.
Hi Shauna,
This is such a great effort not only for gluten-free recipes but also an education in all the other options, grain flours, that are available that are so good and nutritious!
I recently made a Gluten free Apple and Red Grape Cobbler with rice flour for my Farm Fresh series. I have linked to it below.

For Canadian Thanksgiving, I made two gluten-free pumpkin pies. I was all about to invest in four types of gluten-free flours, but when I walked into Whole Foods they had a ton of gluten-free pie crust mixes -- on sale! It was perfect. And delicious!
What a fantastic giveaway!
I've never really liked traditional Thanksgiving foods, especially since going vegetarian 9 years ago and vegan 2 years ago. I think my favorite part of the meal is dessert. I'm not GF, but I did make some vegan GF vanilla cupcakes last week and they were amazing! I halved the recipe and only got 4 cupcakes out of it, but that's a good thing since I would have eaten them all myself. I can't wait to try other GF recipes.
My daughter, Emily, is in the initial stages of trying to figure out whether or not she is gluten or wheat intolerant--right before the holidays! Aack! I am trying to find ways to accommodate our traditions and her dietary needs. Finding this blog is wonderful, and the give away would make it all so much easier!
I'm so looking forward to trying out some of the recipes here! I'm just getting started trying out gluten-free recipes. There's no one in my family who MUST eat gluten-free, but I know there are a lot of people I know who do. I'd love to be able to make things I know they can eat. Thank you for this blog!
I love your blog. I am a vegan baker and I don't have issues with gluten, but I'm up for the challenge. I'll post something later this week.
Thanks for compiling a list and links with lots of recipes. I put up a link on my blog because I have had friends asking about T-day recipes. I think what you have here is the perfect place for them to look.
Hi Shauna (and Danny)! I can't tell you how happy I am that you write this blog and speak out on the radio, etc. You are so damn empowering! It sounds sappy, but every time I hear you speak or read something like the Thanksgiving blog, with all its amazing sounding recipes that are safe for me to eat, I get a little teary eyed. (I know, sappy!) This will be my second GF Thanksgiving. Last year I didn't eat much, but this year will be different. Since my diagnosis, I've taken your approach and I tell everyone about it, because I don't know who I might help. And it's paid off - I now know 5 people who have gone off gluten since I did, including my brother and aunt (and, hopefully soon, my mom). That means this Thanksgiving there is a critical mass of us GF folks and I plan to make that count! I can't wait to try baking a GF pie (the apple pie cheesecake posted by Shaina on Food for My Family sounds off the hook!), the apple rosemary muffins in your cookbook, and the pumpkin soup in your cookbook, which I've already made once and thought was delicious - now I need to share it with my family. I also want to try your rustic bread boule, because I haven't had really amazing bread in a year and half and I think it's time to try. So I'm going to by myself a pizza stone for Christmas - woohoo! I look forward to this Thanksgiving like none before - thank you. Bring on the full bellies!
Yes, I would love a kitchen aid mixer. You guys always have the best info. Thanks! :-)
I'm making Penzey's bourbon chocolate pecan pie with Shauna's fabulous crust! It's an easy pie to make gluten-free. The recipe is on their website!
Here is a traditional turkey recipe. You guys are so amazing. I love watching your videos and learning new recipes.
I will be sure to post on facebook too. :D
http://kumquatdropsnpomegranatekisses.blogspot.com/2010/11/gluten-free-turkey-time.html
You got my attention with the "win a kitchen aid mixer!"...I just made goat milk pumpkin custard with my 30 year old kitchen aid {It's a little louder than it used to be but still runs ] Yes, it's gluten free, low carb and tastes great for the holidays. Most of all it's fast to make and I've been making it with milk instead of cream or evaporated milk for over 30 years. Just take your pumpkin pie recipe use milk instead of evaporated milk, add an extra egg and cook 20 minutes longer than you would a pie.
Cool giveaway! you guys are too nice to us! This will be our first GF Holidays and I'm using some of your recipes! I'll do a blog post afterwards :) Thanks for the greatness! See you guys tonight at the Tattered Cover!
Just diagnosed with Hashimoto's and my wellness practitioner tells me to go gluten-free before Thanksgiving and Christmas...was so bummed until I remembered that gluten-free food can taste sublime thanks to you and your wonderful hubby! Now I can't wait for Thanksgiving next week!
This is my first gluten-free Thanksgiving, and I'm pregnant, which heightens my vigilance. While I have the support of my husband and in-laws, getting the entire family to create a gluten-free meal is apparently out of the question. Maybe next year when one of them has been diagnosed... Not that I wish this upon anyone, but if only they knew how easy it is to create such gluten-free goodness. Anyhow, I've been instructed to cook whatever I want to eat, which is, well, just about everything one wants to eat on Thanksgiving, from mashed potatoes to stuffing to pumpkin pie. When most others are asked to make one dish, I'll be making about five. I'm not complaining; if it's the only way to be completely safe (and keep my baby from potential harm), I'll do it willingly, and with THANKS. One highlight I'll whip up is a super-easy cranberry relish using raw cranberries, an orange plus its zest, and a tad of brown sugar. I use a blender to combine the ingredients b/c I don't have a food processor, and it comes out great. Generally I make it one or two days in advance.
Thanks for all you do for us. This year I have a lot to be thankful for...my baby, my newfound health, and lots of yummy, good-for-me food!

Shauna - you opened the kitchen door for me when I was first GF 4 1/2 years ago. I didn't really cook before, but the first thing I confidently made for myself was your chicken soup for one. I've expanded that to making my own stock/broth, varying ingredients and preparing large batches so I always have that yummy comfort on hand. I know I'm not the only one who has gained confidence and pleasure in the kitchen because of you (and Danny).
I am always grateful for that first push, step and leap into GF life.
wow... so much to look at. I just started making Gluten-Free goodies.... here's are a few of my favorites

I love love love your blog and FB page :) One of my friend's has a food blog which I also love: http://eggsonsunday.wordpress.com/ I alter many of her recipes to be gluten-free. She too is a David Leibovitz fan!
GF for over 10 years and my girls just tested positive for celiac this month. One of my daughter's favorite desserts this time of year is Creme Brulee. Thankfully, for her, this is GF :)
Pumpkin Spice Creme Brulee: http://eggsonsunday.wordpress.com/2009/10/28/pumpkin-and-brown-sugar-creme-brulees/
I actually was a decent cook in the kitchen in every area EXCEPT baking!!! So having 2 GF boys in my house has motivated me to try baking 1 new item a week. Mnay end up in the garbage, but several have been downright delicious!! With your blog I am motivated more then ever!!!
Thanks so much...It is wonderful seeing a family embrace being Celiac!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
Last year was my 1st GF Thanksgiving & I have been practicing new recipes for this year's feast. My youngest son's lady love cannot eat the glutens so to mkae her understand she is welcome in the family we all eat GF for any meal she can partake with us!
I tried your gluten free pizza the other day and it was soooo much harder without a mixer. Kitchen Aid Mixers get great reviews. I have been lusting after one for a loooong time but just haven't sprung for one. Having a mixer for Thanksgiving would be amazing.
I already have new GF recipes for this my 2nd GF Thanksgiving... but after checking these recipes out there will be more new offerings, thanks!!
oh, yummy, Shauna - Thank you for putting that all in one place! I'm hosting this year (my 2nd GF gobble gobble day) and I want to make it interesting AND delish. Can't wait. I'm sure my husband will love it, he's quite the amateur chef.
Thank you SO much for this, and all your other posts! This is my first year of Thanksgiving with no gluten. I'll admit, I've not been looking forward to it much. But now, with you help, I actually am excited to make a gf meal!! I think the trickiest thing for me to give up will be dinner rolls. I have a few gf bread recipes to try, and Im sure Ill find one thats completely satisfying to my Thanksgiving breadtooth :)
I make your gluten free stuffing every year and no one has any idea it is gluten free!

While some need a gluten-free Thanksgiving, my niece is allergic to, well, everything else. Here is a guest article I wrote about preparing a Thanksgiving meal with allergies to common foods and food additives in mind. Would love to have you read it!
I will be making pumpkin macarons as my family can't seem to get enough fo them this fall!
Ohhh i love autumn and all food related. I adored your pumpkin pie. Congratulations for the book, i have already one and i would like a second one. You explain so well your story that is basically the same as mine,
hugs
marta
This will be my first GF thanksgiving and I am so happy I have you - you are a true God Send! And I would be even happier with a new kitchen aid mixer - I was just going to add one to my Christmas list! xoxoxoxo
Well, this will be my 1st GF Thanksgiving... After battling with infertility for 3 years, I am going to see if GF is the way to go to beat this battle!!! I have alot of things saying that gluten is tied to infertility. I guess it can't hurt, right? I can't wait to make some gluten free apple crisp!!!
Thanks for all the great tips and ideas! This will be my first GF holiday season and I am looking forward to it :)
My favorite green bean casseroll will be whipped up with Pacific's new GF cream of mushroom soup! YAHOO!
Looking forward to the drawing :)
Hello Gluten-Free Girl, Chef and Lu,
I do not have to eat gluten free, but I enjoy your blog and want to thank you for how you've really made me think so much more about what goes into the food I eat. I have just purchased a few new types of flours in order to try to improve the variety and healthiness of the foods I bake for my family. Thank you so much for motivating all of us strangers out here, Gluten-Free or not, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Hey life changer!!!
I just finished reading, "Gluten Free Girl" which I LOVED! I've been struggling for years with many of the same symptoms as you did specifically being so TIRED!!
I've made half hearted attempts in the past but now, I am at a point where I will NOT poison my body simply to eat a cracker and other junk! It's sooo not worth it. I am worth it! Your book gave me the courage to understand that I'm not alone!
I finally made the choice to live gluten free. I'm on day 6 and can already notice a huge DIFFERENCE!
Thanks for being you and for sharing your ideas, thoughts, love. Here's to a happier, healthier me!!
Shauna -
I'm going to try your pie crust recipe but wondered how long it will keep in the fridge? If I make my pies over the weekend will they keep until Thanksgiving or do I need to wait until a couple days before? I've never done pie before gf or otherwise. Thanks.
Thanks so much! I think I will have to try your rolls, and I'm terribly intrigued by the pumpkin mash. I have a red kuri squash that needs to be used, and I have no idea what this squash is like. Does anyone know if it would be good in this "mash" (instead of-- or combined with-- the pumpkin)?
I just want to say THANK YOU!!!! You havev helped my son & I make this GF transition SO much easier!!! I'm taking my life back & not caring if people look at me weird. ;) Please consider me for the mixer, I'm a baker at heart and I know this would help so much to try new recipes from the cook book I'm in love with, you might have heard of it...
my favorite would have to be eggrolls...as you can see, not very traditional but o so perfect!
Thanks for the great ideas for Thanksgiving! And thanks for the chance to win the kitchenaid! I would LOVE to have that to help me get through the holidays! My mixer is actually older than I am (from a garage sale) so this would be wonderful!
Linda M
Thank you so much for all of your generosity....wow - I'm speechless. You've compiled so many recipes between you and the other bloggers - thank you, thank you - we will be using many of these for our first completely gluten free thanksgiving.
I tried GlutenFreeGoddess' recipe for vegan/GF pumpkin pie http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2008/10/vegan-pumpkin-pie-worthy-of.html and it was GREAT!
Many thanks!
I am so excited to try all of these this year. I am going home for Thanksgiving and have made sure that my mom and family have every single recipe. They have already asked me about all the different flours, lol. Last Thanksgiving, before my diagnosis, I couldn't even eat, I was so miserable. I am looking forward to a Thanksgiving where I am healthy and can enjoy every delicious gluten free bite!!! Thank you for your wonderful recipes!!!
Wow..that's quite the list! And amazing dishes. My Thanksgiving-esque post is for a side dish. Roasted vegetables with pomegranate sauce. It's a seriously delicious combination of roasted brussels sprouts, sweet potato, and cauliflower, and it's naturally gluten free. Love those kind of recipes for Thanksgiving. It's here: http://simpleginger.com/?p=770
I'm so glad to have found you! My girlfriend was recently diagnosed as allergic to wheat, and having a difficult time adjusting. I've sent her a link to your blog, and hope she will make good use of it.
I love Thanksgiving.... parades in the morning, football in the afternoon, and delicious food all day long! :)
Awesome post: so many great recipes. My Thanksgiving will be gluten free minus a few pies my son might bring!
I will have 2 dressings this year - our usual sausage one which everyone looks for and a new one made gluten free with brown rice instead of the bread cubes...all the sausage used will be GF.My Turkey is GF and the rest of the side dishes will also be GF. Im so excited!
i always love your thanksgiving posts! And I will be traveling out of the country this year during thanksgiving! But I am hosting several brunches and dinners at our place over the holidays and this food can really be enjoyed during the whole winter entertaining season.
Thanksgiving is my version of bakers Olympics (seriously why isn't there an Olympic Event for Baking?). I LIVE for this holiday each and every year. This year marks my FIRST gluten free Thanksgiving and I'm so excited to make it happen!
My all time favorite Thanksgiving food is the Turkey. I love the crispness of the skin, the aroma of it when it's perfectly cooked, the beautifulness siting ready to be carved. And of course homemade Turkey Pot Pie created with the leftovers.
I have numerous friends/family that have recently been diagnosed with Celiac and each of them has received a care package from me that includes a copy of your amazing cookbook with post it tags for the recipes they must make before trying anything else gluten free!
Thank you for these recipes! My husband was diagnosed just before Thanksgiving last year (literally, just days before), and his Thanksgiving meal consisted of turkey, mashed potatoes, and plain green beans. This year, though, since we've got things a bit more figured out, we'll have GF gravy, GF stuffing (made your recipe for Christmas Eve last year, and he LOVED it! He had been hurting, not eating stuffing for Thanksgiving), GF green bean casserole, along with our usual meal.
This thanksgiving I'm making GF mac and cheese, my family has an obsession with the stuff, and I make it real southern homestyle. I also plan on making another GF pumkpin pie (Another? Yes, I made one two days ago and it's gone already!) and Stuffing. We found Udi's bread at our local Health food store so I plan on using up some of the old bread we have that could use some spicing up! Grandma is truly the celiac and may decide not to come with us to my parents...but I'm leaving things at home because her side of the family isn't quite as baking friendly. We're really trying in our household to make everything Grandma Friendly (GF, haha!) since there's no need to do anything otherwise. Thank you for your inspiration through the past 2 years living with her, life is considerably better when you can say "Of course you can have some"
Love your Thanksgiving idea's! The photo's are beautiful too! I love cooking gluten free for the holidays, it's so nice hearing all the compliments of the dishes I make and then seeing their jaws drop when they realize it's gluten free! I think people have such a negative connotation with gluten free, it's as if you're telling them it's FAT FREE!!
I'd love the Kitchen Aid Mixer you say you bought for me :). I realize this is a contest - a great one. I will be making a complete gluten-free dinner from Gluten-Free Girl's Thanksgiving recipes this year along with some tried and true favorites. You can find some of my gluten-free recipes at www.recipesrightnow.com under Health or Gluten-Free - Enjoy, please enter me in the contest & Thanks A Bunch For All The Great Recommendations and Recipes - Gluten-Free Girl Rocks!!!!!
Hi - I'd love the KitchenAid Mixer you say you bought for me...I'll be making a complete Thanksgiving Gluten-Free dinner for myself (I have Celiac Disease) and my husband who has Diabetes Type II this Holiday from all your wonderful recommendations and recipes. I'd love to have a Kitchen Aid Mixer to use in preparation of your recipes along with some family favorites of mine which I have been previously paid to publish on www.recipesrightnow.com, my Gluten-Free recipes can be found both in the Health and General sections. Enjoy, thanks for the contest and please let me know if I'm a winner - Cheers and Much Gluten-Free Love - Sharla aka KitchenDancer!!!!
This is my first gluten-free Thanksgiving and I am not sure how I'm going to navigate it. We'll be heading to two different houses and I have no idea what the menu will be! I'll be eating beforehand and probably bringing a dessert to share.
I am very excited for the meal I have planned using a lot of your recipes! This is our 5th gluten free Thanksgiving and looks like it will be the best one yet!
What a great idea! And I love your suggestion to those who are not gluten free to try one of these recipes for a gluten free friend or family member...it can be so intimidating for them and it doesn't have to be. Thank you for this post.
I am sharing my Cornish Game Hens with Apple Stuffing for your Thanksgiving Menu...

This year I'm especially looking forward to a great GF holiday season. One that includes lots of new GF twists on old favourites. Five years ago I came up with this great Pumpkin Desseret.

I don't have a blog but I would love to try my hand at baking a gluten-free pie or cake. Heather's Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownies that you listed sound pretty darn good too!
I just found your blog and "liked" you on FB so i get to stay up to date on everything. I am just starting to explore gluten-free recipes and haven't been too excited until I came across your blog... I don't HAVE to eat gluten-free but have found I feel better when I limit things with gluten in them. I'm super excited to start trying out your recipes! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving :o)
I have 2 gf kids, so my entire thanksgiving will be gf. I will be making Maida Heatter's chocolate pecan pie with your gf crust (dessert comes first because it's most important, right?). I am also making gf cherry pie, but I haven't totally worked out the recipe yet. We will be having turkey stuffed with gf bread (Udi's)/gf cornbread, celery, onions, chestnuts, and fresh herbs; gf gravy; mashed potatoes (these are gf anyway), fresh cranberry relish (cranberries, zest of one orange, flesh of same orange, 1/4 finely diced granny smith apple, 1/4 - 1/2 c sugar), spinach-artichoke casserole (Southern Living recipe, just substitute thick gf white sauce for the condensed cr of mushroom soup and omit any flour); garlic herb carrots julienne; maybe some rolls. Thanks for all your work perfecting these gf recipes!
You guys are the greatest!! Thanks for being so generous.
This year I am so grateful for the wonderful relationship I have with my husband and my two young daughters. I love the town in which we live, where gluten-free products are easy to come by and living gluten-free is well accepted. I love waking up each morning thinking about what wonderful new food item I will create for my family that day, with the help of my kitchen-loving three-year-old..
Even though so many things are hard in our lives, we have each other. I am so truly blessed this holiday season.
This is only slightly an original recipe. It's a mix of one from Better Homes and Gardens and another from Epicurious.
3 medium onions, coarsely chopped
3 celery ribs, coarsely chopped
1 pound ground pork
1/4 cup brandy
2 large eggs
1 (15-oz) jar peeled cooked whole chestnuts, coarsely crumbled ( approx 3 cups)
1/4 cup coarsely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons dried sage
1 teaspoon dried thyme
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
I roll into balls and bake at 375 degrees for about 40 mins because I like my stuffing crispy and not actually stuffed in anything. In fact, I'm not even sure why I still call this chestnut stuffing since it is more like a meatball. Anyway, I think it's fab!! A fave in our house for years.
Wow thanks for the pie recipie! I was looking for one. I can't wait to start cooking next week!
No blog for me, so just a comment. We are making gluten-free stuffing and I've offered to make gravy. So the big offenders will be covered. (we're going to a friend's house and one of the guests is gluten intolerant; we've had said friend inspect our recipes & kitchens) :-)
my word verification was "adish"
I have to keep gluten free, and I also have a number of food allergies and intolerances. So Thanksgiving will be gluten free, garlic free, onion free, orange free, and a number of other 'frees'...
I make my cranberry sauce with raspberries instead of oranges. I'm perfecting gluten free stuffing this week. I'm buying gluten free pumpkin pie because I am on a deadline and have no time to make it. Turkey? Additive free, with only herbs and butter and olive oil.
And we'll have a houseful of friends, and the day will be wonderful. :)
Thank you, for all the work you do for the GF community.
Yasmine
Last year for several months I ate gluten free thinking I had Celiac's disease. Blood results came back negative for Celiac's and I was told that most of my symptoms could be attributed to my pre-existing Crohn's disease. While I am still not convinced I don't have a gluten sensitivity, I had given up on eating gluten free for half a year or more.
This post is inspiring enough that I may just start baking and eating gluten free again.
It also reminds me of my thanksgiving last year. My friend invited me to his family thanksgiving because my family all had to work that day. His family went out of their way to make the whole meal gluten free for me. It was absolutely wonderful and totally unexpected. It also included a very tasty rice/sausage stuffing for which I should try to get the recipe. I wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving and the best of luck in their gluten free feast preparations.

The best GF white cake EVER! With the most amazing lemon curd on the planet. So elegant, a perfect match for a Thanksgiving feast.

(Boy have you got your work cut out for you, Shauna, going through all these amazing posts!)
Cheers to you from Bainbridge Island,
Joy
P.S. Next time you do one of these contests, can I suggest that for the eligibility part, the blog post must include the title of your book somewhere. Because that's the whole point, isn't it? And I would be happy to boost your book to my audience, and having the reminder is helpful.
Keep on keeping on,
Joy
first time here and HELLO!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!! Everyone in my family, generations of us, are kickin gluten to the curb and feeling so much better. Losing weight, gaining focus.
I can't wait to get all my siblings and nieces and nephews (well the ones that cook or even pretend to) your book for Christmas...
now back to Thanksgiving THANKS IMA GIVING TO YOU for these recipes!
I have been gluten free for almost 3 years and have not had stuffing!! I am so excited to have found this website!!! This year I will be thankful for stuffing and both of you. Thank you! This is as exciting as the first time I had gf bread!
I am so excited about cooking for the holidays this year. I give my thanks to you, your cookbooks and your inspiration. My daughter bought me "gluten-free girl" and gluten-free girl and the chef" for my birthday. What delightful reading and terrific recipes. After not having a working oven last year, I am planning 2 Thanksgiving dinners this year. Thanks for all you do! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!
Wow, what an awesome prize! Especially the collection of gluten free flours. I'm always struggling finding flours that aren't also produced in a facility that uses wheat. I had that sentence on labels :) Any ways, I'm from Canada so have already celebrated Thanksgiving ... here's what I made:
Curried Butternut Squash Soup and Pumpkin Parfait: http://glutenaversion.blogspot.com/2010/10/curried-butternut-squash-soup.html
And an older post on Thanksgiving with Bacon and Cashew Stuffing in Acorn Squash: http://glutenaversion.blogspot.com/2009/10/please-pass-stuffing.html as well as Lemon Hazelnut Green Beans (my fav): http://glutenaversion.blogspot.com/2009/10/please-pass-stuffing.html
It's my first GF Thanksgiving, and tonight I am thankful for your blog, and for the wonderful GF stuffing mix I picked up at Whole Foods today. Looking forward to making some of our favorite dishes GF - and thinking I'm not going to tell the others and just see what they have to say!
what a generous giveaway! i'm contemplating gluten-free stuffing this year. we'll see though... link later <3
Love this post! so many good ideas! Thank you for always sharing with us all ! You are an inspiration to me.
It's hard to decide what I like best at Thanksgiving... my wild rice dressing, my MIL's cornbread dressing, roasted Brussels sprouts, apple crisp, crustless pumpkin pie, spiced cider...
If I get time before we haul across country this weekend, I will post my wild rice dressing.
This year was my second Thanksgiving EVER. I'm Australian, but now live in Canada and am really loving a new tradition (for me, anyway). This year I had a three month old baby in toe so didn't contribute as much with the cooking (we share Thanksgiving with our new good Canadian friends) but I made enough GF bread for the stuffing. Then my friend finished it off with nuts, seeds and cranberries and chicken stock. She couldn't stop telling all her friends and the other guests how good my bread was for stuffing. It is somehow more wholesome and because I use a variety of grains in my bead recipes as well as nuts and seeds it is really packed with flavor. This year, however, I was so flattered and pleasantly surprised that I could eat EVERYTHING that was served up. I am dairy free too, so that is a tough feat. Mash, sweet potato with marshmallows (now that is a yummy invention!), lemon meringue pie, choc cake, gravy, stuffing, turkey and everything else. It is such a nice feeling to be catered for like that and to also know you aren't going to be sick due to error or contamination. Thank you to my friends who fed me and made me feel "normal". It was better than Christmas...
I don't have a blog ... but this is an amazing dish. I start by roasting some cubed butternut squash. While that's in the oven, I chop a leek or two (depending on how much squash I'm making) and saute it in some butter, with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Yes, nutmeg. :) When the squash is nice and roasty, I add it to the leeks. Add some crumbled goat cheese and warm it gently through. I've heard about adding hazelnuts to the party but we have a nut-allergic girl here so ... we eat this one as I described. It's dreamy, and doesn't last around here!

Love your stuffing recipe! I used it last year and this year I'll be using it again with the addition of leeks, fennel, and pine nuts!
We're also going to try your turkey recipe as well!
In my mom's side of the family, we have another tradition for thanksgiving that comes from our ethnic background...
Picadillo! It's delish!
http://glutenfreetravelette.blogspot.com/2010/11/picadillo-ibarguen-family-recipe.html
Wow! What a roundup. Hopefully you are getting SOME down time on you CO tour. Would love to know what time the potluck is in Boulder. Hmmmm.

Shauna and The Chef, this is my fourth GF thanksgiving. I turned to your blog the first year, even before your first book. I've learned so much from you about flours and cooking and the "feel" of GF baking. Now I use family recipes and turn them GF and mix old traditions and new ones. I use pre-made pie crusts when we bake for non-GF family members instead of the homemade wheat ones I used to make but the rest of the family enjoys them just the same. Thanks for all you do...you are still a teacher at your core. It is your calling! Happy Thanksgiving.
My favoite thanksgiving dish is roasted sweet potatoes. Thanks for the goveaway!
I'm making my first completely GF Thanksgiving for family this year. I've been experimenting with bread recipes to find one that my non-GF guests will like. I can't wait to test out some of the recipes you've posted here!
I think gluten free is such a healthy way to eat besides a necessity for many. Thanks for all your ideas. My favourite part of Thanksgiving is my mom's stuffing--which would benefit from a gluten free version.
Favorite food at thanksgiving dinner?? How can I choose. I really love it all. Greenbean casserole, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes...and lets not forget about the desserts. However, we always seem to be lacking in the veggie department. This year I have volunteered to bring brussels sprouts and I think I will use the recipe you provided. Thank you so much!
I will be passing on this post to so many people! It seems there are more and more friends and family going gluten-free... and it sure helps to have you as a guidepost. I'll be doing a Thanksgiving dinner completely free of gluten, dairy, and soy to accommodate my family. Thank you for your many inspirations!
What a great compendium of recipes and blogs! Amazing. Thank you.
My favorite dish for Thanksgiving is sweet potatoes. Nothing candied or with marshmallows (gross!), just baked in a casserole with butter and pecans on top. Pineapple isn't bad with it, either.
What a great compendium of blogs and recipes. Amazing. Thank you.
My favorite dish for Thanksgiving is sweet potatoes. Not candied and no marshmallows (gross!), but baked in a casserole, with lots of butter and some pecans or walnuts. Not bad with pineapple, either.
You have just made my day!! Such an awesome giveaway. I've been following your blog for about 9 months now. I hate baking, b/c the few times I've tried I have failed (and it's expensive to fail GF and DF) This will be the first Thanksgiving my daughter is going to want to eat most everything on the table, so I am on a mission to make sure she has lots of options. Of course I came to your blog first for help last night and found your stuffing and then today I wake up and find this absolutely beautiful, wonderful, life saving post with all of these delicious sounding recipes in one place.
My GF & DF goals for this Thanksgiving for her are stuffing, pumpkin pie (which she has been asking for), pumpkin bread (which I have already got down), mini pecan pies, & cranberry compote.
I have passed on your blog to a good friend who is in process of being tested. She believes she and both of her little girls have celieacs. She has been a great support for me as she loves to bake and is inspiring me.
Have you all heard of better batter flour? SHe just started using it and swears it is awesome. I make my own GF flour mix b/c I was not a huge fan of Bob's Red Mill.
Anyways just letting you know that you all are awesome for this blog and all the help and inspiration you are for the rest of us. I am thankful for you this Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving food I will attempt to make gf this year is rolls. Hoping for success!
This will be my first gluten free thanksgiving and you are fabulous for helping to make it easier for me :). I really want to make the brussel sprouts salad too!! YUMMY. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
Yumm!! This will be my first GF Thanksgiving (holiday season) and you just make it so easy :) I cannot wait to try the brussels sprout salad!!! Everything looks so good. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
I am so glad I found you so long ago. I just found out that my Sister is in lots of need of any gluten free recipies so we will take the challenge this year to make lots gluten free. Plus I have a boy who has to stay gluten free through the holiday so hsi wrestling weight stays low. Thanks and here is to creating in the kitchen.
Hey Shauna, This is such a fantastic event. Being an Indian, wheat was only one of many grains and flours we used. It also helped that it was the costliest. I am so happy that through this recipe exchange there is so much knowledge spread about other flours, which are glutenfree and nutritious.
I made a glutenfree dessert and side recently. An Apple and Red Grape Cobbler and a Butternut Squash and Potato Gratin. Link below
http://www.forkspoonnknife.com/2010/11/farm-to-table-simple-baked-meals.html
Paula Deen's Turnip Mashed potatoes are making it to my table this year. I followed the suggestion in your book to have the waster 'taste like the ocean' when boiling the potatoes - what a difference it makes! I also used my ricer to 'smoosh' them (is that a technical term?). They were fabulous.
Although I'm a foodie now, I still have a few remnants of my picky-eater youth hanging around my table. Until recently, I had to have canned jellied cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. I couldn't abide "real" cranberry sauce. Well, thanks to a friend who turned my on to cranberry compote, I have finally kicked the habit. Here's a link to my blog where you can find one of our favorite gluten-free recipes: http://onemeatoneveg.blogspot.com/2010/11/cranberry-compote.html
My new favorite Thanksgiving dish is the pumpkin polenta from Karina's Kitchen(http://glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com/2010/10/pumpkin-polenta-recipe-with-tomatillo.html).
I live on a farm and made this for all the farm boys the other night...they loved it! This year I am thankful for living here and being able to learn about my food in such an up-close-and-personal way. Happy Thanksgiving!
My roommate has recently had to go gluten free. We are slowing learning how to cook gluten free. Thanksgiving will be a challenge...well, I thought it was going to be. Thanks for this.
If only I could ever receive such a wonderful gift as that... I would love a Kitchen Aid mixer. I don't have a nice mixer; only a small hand mixer. Having celiac disease comes with the need to be able to cook and bake gluten free items at home. The local health food store, Natures/Wild Oats was closed a while ago, so to get gluten free items it a big task. Fred Meyers is starting to carry more items, but I have to go to at least three or four stores in nearby towns to get all the items I need. Anyway, I am going to try your stuffing recipe this year to go with our family Thanksgiving meal. Thank you for your contribution to all of us with celiac disease through your blog. Happy Thanksgiving!

I will post your link on my facebook, try to get more people to see all the recipes and info you have for those of us with celiac disease. The local store closed two or three years ago just after I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I only have a small hand mixer, so baking is cumbersome for me. I drive to three or four to get gluten free items I need. Two of the stores are about forty five minutes away, the local Fred Meyer has increased their GF selections, but it gets discouraging. I am looking forward to making your recipe for gluten free stuffing, as long as I can get some decent gluten free bread. I will also make pumpkin pie using whole foods gluten free pie crust. If I were to ever receive such a wonerful gift as the Kitchen Aid mixer, it would greatly enhance my options for baking and cooking. Thank you for all you do to support those of us struggling through celiac disease and the gluten free diet. Happy Thanksgiving!

LOVE that you have so many recipes from all of the different blogs! It's my first Thanksgiving going gluten free, so all of these recipes are very encouraging!
I don't have a blog, but I just experimented with your gluten free stuffing last night! I wanted to try and make it at home before I make it for my family for Thanksgiving. It turned out fabulous. I can't wait for the rest of my family to try it, too!
I'll be making gluten free rolls, turkey, candied sweet potatoes, stuffed mushrooms, cranberry sauce, a cake, and pumpkin pie. I don't have time to post recipes yet, but now I'm all inspired to do so!
this will be my first holiday going gluten free, and I want to do a turkey with all the trimmings. so thank you so much for all the great ideas and recipes. My daughter bought me your cookbook for christmas so I'm looking forward to that.
I'm also greatful for that my mom's health is getting on track and my Dad is there cooking up a storm for her.
What a great collection of recipes! Thank you! This will be my first year baking a gluten-free pumpkin pie--my and my son's favorite Thanksgiving treat.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Will be taking some GF things to a gluten filled home. . .gravy, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes. I'm making our own due to contamination issues.
Wow! Thank you so much for this post. I am definitely making those fig and goat cheese prosciutto cups for our day before Thanksgiving appetizer party!
We just had a practice run on a couple of casseroles for the big day. Cheesy hashbrown casserole and broccoli casserole, as well as a link to a recipe for condensed cream of mushroom soup here:
http://thecluelesshomeowners.blogspot.com/2010/11/ready-for-thanksgiving.html
Oh, goodness! New to GF foods and didn't realize how many there were! Thank you for your blog and all the amazing recipes! Definitely want to try the apple pie cheesecake.
Thanks for the giveaway and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
My family and I moved to New Zealand a few months ago, but that doesn't mean we will be skipping a traditional, gluten-free, YUMMY Thanksgiving. Yet, I will have to learn to bake the traditional foods without the flours I am used to using in the US- they just aren't available here. I know at least this old stand-by, from before the GF years, will be as delicious as ever (thanks Robin, for the template):
Peeled Sweet Potatoes, cut in 1/4 inch rounds
Peeled tart apples, core removed, cut into 1/4 inch rounds
cranberries
Butter (1 to 2 TBSPS)
Brown Sugar (about 2 TBSPS)
Alternate rows of potatoes and apples (overlapping them a little), in a buttered large pyrex. Sprinkle as many cranberries as you would like over the top. Dust a small amount of brown sugar, over, and then small knobs of butter (I use about 1 to 2 TBSPs). COver with foil, stick in 400 degree oven until potatoes are soft but not mushy.
Healthy, super easy, and delicious!
What a great post; so many things to try! This will be my first gluten free Thanksgiving and I think it's going to be great, mostly because I will be surrounded by family. My favorite dishes, mashed potatoes and green beans with red onions, brown sugar and balsamic vinegar, are naturally gluten free. My mom's already checked with me to make sure everything else is ok for me to eat too. A very happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
I am amazed at the collection so far.
I made this last year and intend to make it again, a Very Moist Pumpkin Bundt.
http://www.myrealisticlife.com/index.php/taste-it/gluten-free-recipes/192-pumpkin-streusalbundt-cake
Thank You both and Happy Holidays.
I don't have a blog, although maybe someday I will :) This will be our first gluten free Thanksgiving. I always the gravy at Thanksgiving dinner so this year I am looking forward to making a gluten free gravy! Thank you for all of your help in entering the world of gluten free eating. It seemed so daunting at first but I am actually excited for Thanksgiving dinner!
My favorite Thanksgiving food would definitely be mashed potatoes(with gravy of course!).
Happy Thanksgiving, and thank you for the chance to win. :)
e-mail: createwithme@clearwire.net
Thank you so much! I will try your recipes next christmas. I am sure my boyfriend's family won't notice it's GF! :)
This is our first gluten free thanksgiving and I'm confidant that no one will miss it! I can't wait to read all the posted recipes afterward!
wonderful round up of recipes. .burp!! happy thanks giving
happy healh pad
I love the stuffing at Thanksgiving. I think I've found a great Focaccia bread recipe to use as the bread base to make it gluten free.
Thanks so much for posting (and cooking!) your early Thanksgiving dinner. This will be my first year making a gluten-free Thanksgiving, so I need all the help I can get!
-Mary
Thank you so much for this post and for your blog! I have been following you since 2006 (through my travels everywhere) and your blog is the first place I found recipes for gluten-free cookies. Your recipes have gotten me through many a Christmas and holiday season feeling like a "normal" person as I baked cookies and pies I could finally eat (and that everyone loved!).
You're also the person who finally inspired me to start a gluten-free blog this year. I am so happy to be able to join you in spreading the word about all the delicious holiday gluten-free recipes out there. No one should feel deprived during these joyous moments!
Here is my first contribution to the gluten-free Thanksgiving recipe box: Gluten-Free Sweet Potato Biscuits.
http://spicybohemian.blogspot.com/2010/11/gluten-free-sweet-potato-biscuits.html
Thank you, thank you, thank you again for everything you do!
Our entire Thanksgiving Day dinner is gluten free. I've been using your gravey recipe the last few years and it is the best. This is our new stuffing recipe: http://foodallergycooking.blogspot.com/2009/12/our-new-favorite-thanksgiving-stuffing.html
I used it last year and it was a big hit. I'll be using it again this year too :)
I am making rice and potato stuffing for my Thanksgiving Meal.

This week I read an article in Today's Dietitian that shows how research connects celiac and thyroid diseases and suggests a GF diet benefits both: http://todaysdietitian.com/newarchives/110310p52.shtml
Thanks for the delicious inspiration as I grapple with realizing that GF is not a phase in my life, but a long-term commitment to managing my thyroid disease.
I don't have a blog so will write my experience here:
I have so many things to be thankful for. This year we will be traveling away from beautiful Colorado for Thanksgiving, so I am making a few treats to take on the road. We have found a place to serve us a gluten free meal for dinner- but I was trying to figure out what to have for breakfast...then your blog came and I was inspired. I just got done making my first batch of gluten free doughnuts. Some have sprinkles, glazed, even a little coconut. Oh how I have missed those delicious treats. I am going to make a new batch before we leave and enjoy Thursday morning with a strong cup of coffee.
I made my favorite Thanksgiving side, green bean casserole, gluten free.
http://anniessweetlife.blogspot.com/2010/11/gluten-free-thanksgiving.html
I don't have time to bake anything this week, since I'm already behind on baking the gluten-free Lebkuchen I promised to take to my son's International Night Celebration tomorrow night!
My all time favorite Thanksgiving food is stuffing. The stuff-into-the-bird kind. The cubed bread kind. The full-of-onions-and-celery-and-ground-sage kind. The kind without sausage or cornbread or tamarind or cumin or raisins. Just plain Thanksgiving stuffing, like what has been done in my family since the dawn of time.
Last year, I tried a gluten-free corn bread stuffing. It turned out fine. But it didn't satisfy my desire for our Thanksgiving stuffing. It wasn't the same and clearly I was hankering for the same stuffing we've always had.
This year I'm hankering for the same ol' stuffing again. And I plan to make it, with the help of your web site! I will make a loaf of gluten-free bread, cube it and use that in my stuffing.
We have an offer to join friends for Thanksgiving dinner this year, but that would mean I would miss the opportunity to try making gluten-free stuffing again, but without the cornbread this time. Oh... and to try gluten-free pecan pie again. Last year the center of the crust was soggy. I've got to try again!
As for your wonderful prizes, thank you. Thank you for offering them. I already have your cookbook and over a dozen gluten-free flours and a KitchenAid stand mixer (17 years old and still going strong!). What I really need is a OXO digital kitchen scale and a Cuisinart food processor. Then I can really tackle all of your recipes!
Happy Gluten-Free Thanksgiving!
Shauna, I've been reading your blog for a couple of years now and have not thanked you adequately. Today's post, finally, has made me cry. The reasons are complex, but it is partly because I am not celiac. I am "gluten-intolerant." Eating gluten doesn't make me sick. It makes me feel very uncomfortable and itchy. It makes me have an auto-immune response that is not "serious." It's been getting worse lately. TMI, I know. My point is that because I'm "not that bad" I haven't insisted that my family support me. Now my mother has invited us over for Thanksgiving. In the 5 years since my diagnosis, she and my father have been reluctant to make any concessions to my special needs. They don't seem to be very interested. They are in their 80's and I'm reluctant to put myself forward. So I am finally to the point of sad. Sad that I have let this happen. Sad that they don't seem more interested. Sad that I clearly haven't explained it so that they are. Just sad. I hope that this is a "good" sad that leads to change. Your support has been invaluable through the years. It means so much that you understand and that you care. I haz a sad, but maybe now I can do what needs to be done to take care of myself and to help my family to love me.
My favourite Thanksgiving food is most definitely my grandmother's rice stuffing. Delicious AND naturally gluten-free! If I had a cooking blog, I would definitely want to share this one with the world!
I made a special gluten-free (and sugar-free, grain-free and vegan) sweet potato tart just for you. Thanks for the challenge!
Oops. I forgot to post the url. Here it is: http://adashofcompassion.blogspot.com/2010/11/i-heart-sweet-potato.html
Ooo, such goodies! I will definitely be trying out some of the GF recipes you have offered this Thanksgiving and for Christmas. Your prize of GF flours would be most appreciated! Having no blog of my own I am hoping to win with a comment. :)
Just bought your most recent cookbook... love the Black Cod recipe! Thanks for making gluten-free delicious.
I can't wait to make the Brown Sugar Hand Pies & some of my great-grandmother's cornbread stuffing (GF, of course!)! This is my first year being GF, so wish me luck! :0)
What an awesome giveaway! No (active) blog at this time... but my favorite thanksgiving recipe is for gravy - and lots of it! I stir rice flour into the turkey drippings, add in chicken stock until we get the perfect velvety consistency... all while whisking and stirring like a madwoman. I don't have any exact amounts... just keep adding in the ingredients until it "looks right." I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!
Will be making sage risotto insteadd of bread stuffing since I
do not eat any flour. It is very yummy and gluten free.
I am working on posting some of my recipes on my blog, but haven't gotten around to it yet (toddler time comes first).
You, your husband, and your recipes are amazing. I know that we are trying to get you both here for our 2nd gluten free expo in Charlotte, and I hope we can get the funds together to do it! (Side note-I'm organizing a GF bakesale to raise some funds for the cause..YAY!!)
No kitchen related blog here (barely have a blog at all for that matter.) My brother is gluten free and I'm quickly trying to figure out how to make dinner rolls and pie crust for him...here's hoping it goes well!
you got a healthy thanksgivings set of recipe.
Wow, what an amazing project of community unity! Beautiful.
Everything we make at our table will be GF. We eat wild elk and deer roasts with applesauce. And buttercup squash we grew plus braised chard from our greenhouse and local mashed potatoes, chocolate cake and apple crisp.
I am on a quest for GF bread and pie crust recipes. I think i hit the jackpot. And I will forward a link to all my gluten free buds.
After years of wondering why he had chronic acid reflux, my boyfriend was recently diagnosed with gluten intolerance. In our case, it would now be gluten-free boy and the chef! We were already eating healthily, and we've decided to look at his diagnosis as an opportunity to get creative as cooks. Thanksgiving and the holidays will be no exception! I'll likely make the lovely apple crisp that was recently featured.
This will be my first gluten free Thanksgiving. I am so grateful for you, Shauna and Danny; and all the people with more experience and expertise who have taken the time to post really wonderful recipes so that my family and I can share a wonderful meal. Thank you.
Last Thanksgiving was the first time I attempted to make my GF pumpkin pie from scratch. I never roasted a pumpkin before or ground my own spices. I participated in Christopher & Tia's challenge of making your pie from scratch. I made a pumpkin pie with chocolate crust. Here's how it all went down:
http://www.glutenfreebetsy.com/2009/11/betsys-not-from-can-pumpkin-pie.html
This year I think I will attempt a flakey gluten free pie crust.
Also - I have been working with the libraries in my area as a gluten free resource. Earlier in the month we discussed gluten free holiday recipes and someone brought in your stuffing recipe to share!
This will be our family's first Thanksgiving gluten-free, and thanks to these recipes, no one will go hungry! This Thanksgiving, I can't wait for the baked sweet potatoes. Thank you so so so much for collecting all these recipes, it's great to know that Thanksgiving can still be delicious gluten-free :)
I'm commenting to share my Thanksgiving recipe to enter into your incredible giveaway. I made gluten free, dairy free, and sugar free Pear Walnut Spice cake. Its amazing! Its currently the latest post at www.archerfriendly.com.
Thanks so much for this- my first gluten free Thanksgiving so really appreciate all the ideas and recipes. Can't imagine a Thanksgiving without stuffing and pumpkin pie so looking forward to trying some of these great posts. Thanks for the inspiration!
I will try making GF pie crust this year!!
I haven't learned - or attempted to master - the gluten free bread baking but I've tried my hand at desserts. I've made pumpkin cake (which I'll make again for Thanksgiving), peanut butter cookies, and cheesecake. So many flours, I'm kind of scared. Never really that good at chemisty. But I make a mean soup! :)
Thanks for all the gluten-free ideas - I'm super excited to try my hand at them.

What a great blog you have. I've been gluten free for over a year and need new inspiration - I've eaten as many rice cakes with almond butter as I can! Can't wait to try your recipes. My favorite recipe for holidays is quinoa with roasted squash, pine nuts a handful of parsley and a touch of ume plum vinegar (you can find it at Whole Foods). Yum!
Thank you, thank you, for the extensive recipe bank. I started reading your blog just after I moved to Seattle, in 2007. I saw an article in the paper about your first book, and came to your site out of curiosity. Little did I know how handy your recipes would be. Just a few months after our daughter was born, we came to the conclusion that she has some sort of dairy sensitivity/intolerance/allergy (not yet tested). So, we're now a mostly dairy-free household. And, we've tried to adopt your spirit of feeling inspired to try new foods, instead of feeling limited. So, thank you.
I'm beginning a marathon of dairy-free pumpkin pie making in preparation for Thanksgiving. We'll be with family, so I know that the meal won't be completely dairy-free, and I want my daughter to be able to safely enjoy her first taste of pumpkin pie.
And, thanks for the AWESOME giveaway. We would be thrilled to win any of the prizes, but especially the KitchenAid (my dream kitchen appliance.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I just started eating gluten-free e few weeks ago (I have ulcerative colitis) and am utterly stunned by the positive difference in how I feel. So I've only started to discover the world of GF blogs (though I'd been reading yours for a while :-D), and I'm having so much fun experimenting with new flours and new recipes.
For Thanksgiving, I'm hosting but a few people are bringing things with gluten. I'm making everything else but am most excited about Lynne Rossetto Kasper's Crisp Apple-Scented Roast Turkey with Cider–Calvados Gravy and a butternut squash soup with fried sage and creme fraiche. Thanks so much for all these fantastic recipes!!
I think that my favorite Thanksgiving food is GF pumpkin pie. But, if I make that delicious cinnamon roll recipe that you posted a while back on Thanksgiving--that might be my new favorite! Love your recipes.
Here's my recipe - Cinnamon-Cardamom Rice Pudding with Honeyed Rosewater Sauce:http://bit.ly/d4t7iX
I'm bookmarking this post and will keep coming back to it for recipes. I've only been able to look at a few so far and everything seems fabulous!
Thanks for creating this resource.
I'm live blogging my Thanksgiving contributions here: http://www.taraswiger.com/index.php/gluten-free-thanksgiving/
Your stuffing + your cornbread + gingerbread cookies + pie crust.
I'm doing two dinners (but am not Head Chef at either) and will be sharing baking photos + reports on tastyness in the above post.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Just fantastic. Thank you SO MUCH for these ideas. Lately, the GF lifestyle is very hard on me, feeling deprived, etc. Am trying to suspend the disbelief in the disease and focus on wild rice based dishes.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is cornbread dressing (gluten-free, of course!). Can't wait!
I really love that you're compiling this list of recipes. My partner has celiac disease and it can be so hard to make sure that food is safe for him at holiday gatherings. I'm going to bookmark this post and keep it as a reference for us and for our family and friends.
Here's my recipe:

(This was a second attempt to post - I think I messed up the first one. If it's a duplicate, I apologize.)
This will be my very first gluten free Thanksgiving. Of course, this is the year it will be at my mom's house! They are very confused about what I can and cannot have (mom though I could have some apple pie if I just didn't eat the crust). I was thinking I was going to miss out on crescent rolls, but now thanks to your collection, I am bringing my own!!!!!
My sweet little seven year old boy was reading with me and he said "mom, if they make gluten free turkey, we need to make that too." So sweet! Whenever we are at a store or restaurant he always says right away "my mom can't have gluten."
What a blessing! - both the giveaway and the recipes. My favorite Thanksgiving meal would be a tie between stuffing and mac & cheese. Two meals I thought I'd never be able to eat again because of gluten. This will be our first gluten free Thanksgiving; I'm looking forward to it too :)

Today I am working on GF and dairy free pecan pie for my wonderful husband, a test run for next week. I am using the crust from the pear tart in your cookbook. Then I need to work on GF dressing and I am going to make a loaf of GF bread so he will have something to make leftover turkey sandwiches on. I can't wait to cook nonstop the next few days!
Thanksgiving day is our 10th wedding anniversary, so we have something extra-special to be thankful for!
And I am thankful that I can cook such wonderful meals for my husband to keep him healthy! Thank you Shauna and Daniel for your help!
Here is my contribution: http://magicalrealist.blogspot.com/2010/11/holiday-meals.html
It's a spiced cranberry-pear conserve that my family has made for years, naturally gluten- dairy- and egg- free.
You are so inspiring and I hope to experiment with more of your recipes when I have time. Your new book is on my Christmas wish list and your fig cookies are the first thing on our Christmas cookie list.
This is my second Thanksgiving lactose-free and my first gluten-free. I am SO excited to be having so much delicious foods and thankful for a family that is supportive of my new diet. I will be bringing bread, stuffing, cookies, pumpkin pie and an appetizer to the table this year as well as share my cooking talents in the kitchen! I have never been so excited to celebrate Thanksgiving!!!
http://windycitycooking.blogspot.com/2010/11/countdown-to-thanksgiving.html
We harvested 15 Fairytale pumpkins from our backyard this year. The flesh is neon orange and very sweet when roasted, so we're going to try a gluten-free pumpkin cheesecake with a pecan crust. Also currently experimenting with GF pumpkin dinner rolls. The GF pumpkin spice cookies were a hit, even with my father in law who really didn't care whether or not they were gluten free but finished them off regardless! Love your blog, keep up the good work!
WONDERFUL WONDERFUL recipes for this Thanksgiving AND for Christmas, soon to folow.
Now, in order to prepare a guns-blazing-gluten-free-Thanksgiving-feast, you've got to have a good breakfast in your system. Here's a link to the post I did just today! It's all about sorghum waffles!
http://thenoisyplume.blogspot.com/2010/11/all-is-not-lost.html
This is the first Thanksgiving that my son, Bryndin and I will be eating gluten free. We started trying this diet after Christmas last year to help with symptoms of his Asperger’s. We have found it has a tremendous impact on his behavior and self control. He has been able to be integrated into a regular classroom fully with few limitations and is doing wonderfully all because he no longer eats gluten. I was following the diet with him and found it made me feel better, I have been tested but the results were inconclusive due to my already being gluten free; my doctor did not understand that I had to eat it for it to show up. For Thanksgiving we have a tradition of eating Monkey Bread for breakfast while watching the parades. So as the time nears I have been searching for a good recipe that will be Gluten-free and still have that pull apart bread feel we remember and love. I have found a few that I will be trying and hope they will work out. I will also be making GF pecan pie, pumpkin pie, and stuffing to take to my mothers so my son and I will not be left out of anything. I love your blog Shauna, it has taught me a lot and given me get ideas as I try to make things as normal as possible for us. It is wonderful that you are making a difference in so many peoples lives, including my own. I would appreciate being put into your give-away drawing.

I'm planning to make a GF French silk pie. This is a favorite of my boyfriend's family, they'll make any excuse to go to Baker's Square in order to get some. When the chain closed down all of the restaurants by us, they missed it so much.
Future MIL has celiac's and I hope she loves it too :)
WoW- Just came to get a GF stuffin recipe, next thing I know, I'm making some muffings, taking pics and posting on my blog about this.
Hope I get a cookbook, at least. ;)
If not, that's fine- I'm asking for it for xmas...
Here's my post about my adventure: http://jenafusion.blogspot.com/2010/11/free-holiday-giveaways-galore.html
ALSO, I must admit, I'm not a daily reader of the blog, nor have been GF for very long, so this might be redundant. But, there are LOTS of GF mixes available, that weren't even a few years ago. (My aunt has been celiac for 20 years, mixes did not exist then) What I would LOVE would be a similar challenge for people to create goods by altering the mixes. Like all the major food companies do. So, then they publish the recipe on the box. One of my old favorites was a cookie made from a cake mix.
I've been experimenting with making things pumpkin this fall. The Bob's Red Mill pancake mix was pretty good as pumpkin.
Even the King Arthur's recipes on their site don't use their own mixes... Anyone else have some altered mix recipes to share?
GF girl and chef- thanks for all you do for all of us out here!
I always love the cornbread.
I love your blog.
I'm Brazilian and this will be my first Thanksgiving.
I prepare this Pumpkin Mousse Cake:
http://lulussweetsecrets.blogspot.com/2010/11/pumpkin-mousse-cake-for-gluten-free.html
Have a wonderful holiday!
Thank you for doing this Shauna. Looking at all of the recipes is such a joy. Our thanksgiving has past, but both parts of it were lovely. The day we spent wandering around San Francisco and the beautiful meal at home. My favourite foods of thanksgiving change each year. Sometimes the sweet potatoes, or the turkey. I love that the best parts are either already gluten-free or easy to make gluten-free.
I wrote about some of my favourite recipes, because I've been under the weather and haven't been in the kitchen in weeks. Hopefully soon :).
http://www.celiacteen.com/2010/gluten-free-holidays/
We loved apple pie and all baked apple stuff. This is our first corn free and gluten free Thanksgiving and I was wondering what I am going to do. So I decided to make up a simple apple bake.
Cut up eight lg honeycrisp into a bag inside a crockpot. Sprinkle your favorite seasonings. I love ground cinnamon, nut meg, and clove. I put a 1/2 cup of brown sugar on top. Then I set my crock put to cook for 6-8 hours. Stir once or twice. I cut off the skins this time but I do like the skin on also. Your preference. This is great alone or on top of ice cream. Good eating!
Ahh, we've had a gluten-free Thanksgiving for many years, as my best friend has celiac, and we need to feed her. Now I've gone GF, too.
My sweetie makes outstanding cornbread stuffing:
Bake 2 pans of cornbread - use 1/2 corn meal and 1/2 corn flour and otherwise, just follow the recipe on the box.
Do this a day or two in advance, so it can dry out a little bit.
Saute 1 whole onion, 3 sticks of celery and some fresh sage, fresh rosemary, salt and pepper together until the onions are soft.
Then crumble the cornbread up, mix it with the onion mix in a big bowl.
Chop up 2 apples (tart ones are good), coarsly chop about a cup of hazelnuts, and add a 1/2 cup of pumpkin seeds. Add a cup or so of fresh parsley, chopped up.
Taste it. It may need more salt or pepper, or herbs; this is the time to adjust.
We do stuff our bird with half the stuffing, put the balance in a baking pan with foil on it, and bake it for an hour or so, then uncovered baked for a bit to crisp up the edges. We like to mix the stuffing from in the bird with the other, so there's a mix of textures.
Yum!!
here's my grandmother's cinnamon bread recipe, and my adaptation: http://www.byhandathome.com/2010/11/cinnamon-bread.html it turned out so delicious. we tore through half a loaf as soon as it was cool!
I'm new to gluten-free (and in my case, dairy-free, soy-free, nut-free, and egg-free) cooking, so I don't know what I'd do without these blogs! I've made some adaptations to a gluten-free bread recipe that I found to get a garlic-rosemary focaccia feel. I'm nervous about Thanksgiving but excited to try out some of these things! Find it here:
http://consideringloss.blogspot.com/2010/11/delicious-gluten-free-everything-free.html
This is wonderful, thank you for this post!
I've posted my own, with some not-so-traditional family favorites. And of course there is a shout out to your site and book.

What a giveaway, fingers crossed!
Happy Thanksgiving!

We will have a nearly 100% gluten-free Thanksgiving this year, including pumpkin cheesecake. As to what we cooked up this weekend, GF lefse!!
Recipe & pics here:

We'll be up on Camano Island in Puget Sound, kicking the feasting and snacking off with this recipe for Maple Bourbon Pumpkin Butter!
http://lizzieinatizzie.blogspot.com/2010/11/bourbon-maple-pumpkin-butter-oh-oh-yes.html
I think I'm late to the party, but this is what I made over the week. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in my part of the world, but I think that every day is a day for giving thanks anyway - for safe food, friends, and inspirations like you. :)

Never again will anybody be left wondering how to survive a gluten free Thanksgiving. Thanks for sharing so many delicious ideas.
I've just put up my post for your fab contest:
http://gfreemom.com/2010/gluten-free-swedish-saffron-rolls/
Thanks and have a great Thanksgiving!
What an amazing list of recipes. What creativity!!
My favorite Thanksgiving food is stuffing with gravy. Nourishing. Filling. Comfort food.
Happy Thanksgiving.

What an amazing giveaway! My favorite food for Thanksgiving is my mom's corn casserole. I usually make it a few times throughout the year, but I haven't had it since we found out my husband is gluten intolerant a little over a year ago. The recipe is filled with saltine crackers. I haven't yet attempted a rework of the recipe. This year we are contributing gf dressing and a gf pecan pie to the meal.
Hi there. I'm aging myself by admitting I'm not a blogger, but I LOVE following your blog! And I've become a decent GF cook myself in the past 4 years. Now 3 of the 4 of us are gluten free, as well as dairy free and egg free (although we'll occasionally cheat with the eggs), so cooking has become more adventurous. SO happy to find you and be able to cook with you! What an inspiration!
Our favorite Thanksgiving foods are sweet potato brulee (made with sweet potatoes, rice milk, maple syrup, and vanilla with a pecan and brown sugar crust) and wild rice casserole ("real" wild rice from Minnesota baked in white wine with grapes sauteed in sherry and a few other ingredients). I've also adapted a stuffing to be GF, DF and EF by baking my own bread and cornbread 2 days ahead. It's perfect for stuffing on Thursday morning when I mix it with celery, onions, carrots, mushrooms, herbs and GF turkey sausage. Always a winner at our table!
Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving! Congratulations on the tremendous success of your new book! So many of us are thankful for the two of you!!!
Hi there! I know it's close to cut-off time, but I just posted a new recipe for Gluten-Free Apple Pie with Oatmeal Cookie Crust on my blog. I've already left a comment with a link to my Gluten-Free Sweet Potato Biscuits, but I thought I'd share this one too! Here's the link: http://spicybohemian.blogspot.com/2010/11/apple-pie-with-oatmeal-cookie-crust.html
Thanks again for doing all that you do! You're such an inspiration to all of us out there who are living the gluten-free life!!
My family gets together and everyone has a specific task, certain dish, or cleaning job to help the thanksgiving feast. By the time we sit down to eat, everyone has helped and all are smiling and laughing. I'm also thankful that Thanksgiving is the precursor to Christmas Eve...when my italian family does CRAB AND SPAGHETTI--I had my own pasta last year and it was just as wonderful! Thanks Shauna and Danny!
What a wonderful and helpful post! I wish you and yours a healthy and happy Thanksgiving!
this sounds like a fantastic idea.
we don't do Thanksgiving here in the UK, so I shan't be joining in your challenge.
But being a gluten free family, I'm going to follow your blog.
thanks
Here's my entry for the prizes - and I want to thank you for this opportunity! I actually tested and adjusted a recipe for the first time in my life when baking, to make it just how I wanted. It was so much fun!
Would love the goodies, especially the mixer, as I do everything by hand.
Blog post here: http://www.rachelgrundy.com/2010/11/gf-for-the-holidays/
Happy holidays to you and yours!
I just made a dessert perfect for Thanksgiving. I am bringing to share with my extended family (all of us are GF).
Pumpkin Cake with Sweet Apples and Cream. This is not your everyday Trifle!
http://themixingbowldiary.com/2010/11/pumpkin-cake-with-sweet-apples-and-cream-gluten-free-dairy-free/
It is GF/DF.
This year I'm making your GF stuffing, and also trying to make a pie crust for my pumpkin pie that's GF! I don't have a blog, though, so I can't post any pictures. Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi,
This is my first time here, I love the blog, so many ideas....and the giveaway is out of this world. I have always wanted to try gluten free and have been not knowne where to begin. I hope to make some of your recipes soon.
I recently make this sweet corn cake at my blog www.cuminandcardamom.blogspot.com and it will be part of my thanksgiving table, here is the link http://cuminandcardamom.blogspot.com/2010/11/sweet-corn-cake.html
I hope you like it. Thank you for the wonderful opportunity.
My best friend is allergic to alliums (garlic, onions, etc), so we're actually doing a Thanksgiving feast, gluten and allium free! Also, mostly apple free.
I'm going to brine the turkey in a homemade brine with dried tomatoes, mushrooms, and ginger, since most commercial stocks and bouillon all include onion and garlic. This is the first year we are cutting out the onions, and boy is it a challenge. We make a slurry gravy from the drippings, since its easy to make a smooth gravy this way.
Cornbread stuffing, made with home made (allium free broth), parsley and celery, with truffle oil to replace the onion flavor.
Mashed potatoes; maple yams/carrots/acorn squash; fresh green beans; and home made cranberry sauce.
I also make a cranberry and apple crisp, tossing the cranberries in with the apples, and making the crisp topping out of quinoa flakes, brown sugar, spices, butter, and whatever nuts I have on hand. Pumpkin pie rounds out the traditions, I'll be making mine with a gingersnap cookie and pecan crust!
I almost forgot to post the link for my pumpkin dacquoise.
I made myself a holiday treat early this year. :)

I'm planning my first gluten-free thanksgiving this year and am surprised by how doable it feels. Thanks for your help!
My blog post is here:
http://michellekanderson.tumblr.com/post/1640897450/thanksgiving-dinner
My family has a gluten, casein, citrus, nut free Thanksgiving every year. Even having to exclude all of those things we manage to make a meal I think anybody would be proud to be a part of.
A new addition to the must have it on the table list is roasted squash soup. We love it.

This space is like my kitchen, and Im inviting you in. If you would feel comfortable pointing your finger at me and shouting during a party in my kitchen, well, I'd ask you to leave. And then the rest of us would clear the air and go back to talking and laughing. The same is true here.
Now. Enough of that. Let's talk.
