I found his website, where the first three chapters are available as pdf. I just read the first one. It's great for parents to have a book that works!

I remember myself as being a very picky eater as a child, but my mother always told me that I ate well as a baby and a toddler. So whatever my mother did right when I was a baby, went out the window when I got older. I remember eating chicken sandwiches in the Chinese restaurant. It took me years to even think of trying Chinese food. My mother cooked two roast beefs every week so that I could eat the leftovers. The list goes on, but I don't think my mother raised me that way. I think I was just stubborn because if I did not like a food, I would literally gag on it.

He talked about his daughter being a bit of a bacon snob. Well then, I am a chopped liver snob because only the traditional Jewish recipe will ever be good enough for me. Pate is just a poor imitation. I am also a chicken soup snob because I cook mine with white wine, and it is delicious.

Take care,

Shoshannah

When I was very young, I refused to eat anything but spaghetti and salami. There are photos taken that Christmas that show everyone tucking in to full plates of roast beef and all the trimmings, whilst I sit with a plate of spaghetti, tomato sauce all around the big smile on my face. My mother didn't really worry - so long as it was served in a tomato sauce on top of spaghetti, I would eat anything. So she just minced up whatever meat she had and added whatever vegetables she wanted me to eat, and *slurp* I would eat it right up. If I was still up when my dad came home from work, which didn't happen often, he would sit me up on the kitchen counter and feed me slices of lami, as I called it, chatting to me about what I had done that day. Spaghetti is still one of my favourite meals. In fact, I think I might have to make it tonight!

I don't have kids either, but I checked out the book and found that it's fun for...trite as it may sound, "Kids of all ages". The writing style is so engaging and entertaining!

I loved it too! I'm raising my baby girl according to my dad's motto, if it doesn't eat me first. She's amazing, but we definitely have our ups and downs. Olives - yes! Babaganoush - No!

Just an FYI, I just heard your Hungry Monkey author doing a bit on the NPR morning show. His daughter joined him for part of the interview, and it is pretty darn funny. You can listen to it at some point today (Monday, Memorial Day) by going to npr.org, scroll down a little and click on the "morning edition" link on the left, then scroll down 'til you see the "Let them eat sugar" link. Some of the content of the interview is also there in article form along with a pic of Matthew and his daughter Iris.
Enjoy
